Painting Trends for 2015 to Know About
At Franklin Painting we believe that you set your own trends when it comes to deciding what colors to use when painting the interior of your home. We are always willing to work with homeowners and local interior designers to create the interiors that our clients are dreaming about.
However, every year around this time there are those proclamations about this years “trends” in color. Take a look at what the pros are saying, but remember that in our book – you are the director of interior color choices!
If there’s one rule for mixing and matching interior paint colors for 2015, it’s this: There are no rules.
Paint professionals and top decorators are encouraging people to paint with their hearts this year, to use not only bold and different shades but to blend shades in unique ways that truly express one-of-a-kind color statements.
Fortunately, top paint manufacturers like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams have a gigantic list of “stock” colors and beyond that can mix a special order of paint in any color that exists. All that’s left for the homeowner is to decide how far to go in creating a truly magnificent color experience within his or her home.
Trending color styles
In an article titled “The 2015 Color Trends You NEED to Know Now,” HouseBeautiful.com offers these suggestions:
Greek Blue – This is a striking Mediterranean blue that’s instantly recognizable and appealing. You’ve probably seen that stand-out shade of blue on the Greek flag.
Neutral Gray – Gray has become the hottest neutral color these days. The great thing about the many shades of gray is how easy it is to add pieces of other colors around it to make a stunning statement.
1960s Shades – The sixties were a time for experimentation – with more than just color. But where color is concerned, retro shades like olive and orange are finding new expression in today’s homes.
Pastel Palettes – There’s virtually nothing you can’t do with soft pastel shades – including giving them a modern touch by combining them with contrasting shades that are heavy, exciting and dramatic.
Olive Green – This shade is expected to be one of the most popular in 2015. It gives off a warm, organic feel and is neutral enough to pair with a number of other colors for a perfectly off-setting color scheme.

And speaking of the green family of colors, Benjamin Moore has selected its Color of the Year: Guilford Green. The creative director at the paint maker calls it “A neutral that’s natural. A silvery green that works with, well, everything. No worries. No second thoughts. Just a brush, dipped in a can, whooshed on a wall, and a whole lot of happily ever after.”
In forecasting the hottest colors and color combos for 2015, Sherwin Williams highlights these trends:
- Colors that create an oasis, inspired by the earth and sky
- From space to the bottom of the sea, colors that are full of supernatural magic
- Bright florals, green spaces and the urban landscape blend to send a unique message
- An eclectic mix of ethnic-inspired colors to dramatically lift the mood and engage the senses
There are definitely a lot of colors to choose from. This year, make your selection based on what inspires you and makes you feel good. And most important – forget about the rules.
